Preparations for the arrival of 80 election observers from 11 countries are final

The arrival of at least 80 observers from 12 countries to Bangladesh to observe the 12th National Assembly elections has been finalized. The number of observers may increase in the next few days. Apart from this, the arrival of about 50 media personnel from different countries to collect news about the election held on January 7 has been finalized. About 150 foreign observers and 227 media workers applied to observe the National Assembly election.

This information was obtained regarding the presence of foreign observers and media workers by talking to the officials of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

Officials associated with the preparation of the election said that the EC invited international observers and journalists to observe the election in various countries to observe the 12th National Parliament election. In response to that request, preparations for the arrival of 80 election observers from 11 countries, including Russia, China, Japan, India, Nigeria, Gambia, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Mauritius, have almost been finalized. Some of the foreign observers who are coming to Bangladesh are invited and the rest are coming to Bangladesh on their own initiative.

A related official told Prothom Alo this afternoon that the foreign observers will do the job of monitoring the National Parliament election in these three categories - state, institutional and personal. Among them there are representatives of Election Commission of Russia, India, Mauritius, Sri Lanka. Organizations including the European Union, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI), the Commonwealth, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab Parliament and the African Electoral Alliance will be involved in monitoring the election.
